The closest populated place is that of Goldburg that is16.44 miles far from Carlson Lake.. Carlson Lake is also 44.75 miles far from the closest airport or heliport, the Mackay Airport .. We did it with a pickup truck, and I know a guy who did it in a Subaru, but I would recommend using a 4-wheeler or ATV if you can. Big Cedar is well worth the hike but if you go in reverse a hiking stick can come in handy for the steep sections - especially the very steep down which I dumbly did without a stick when trail was muddy. 3.
